Objective 1

Articulate the principles of and purpose for good assessment
• Principles:
Assemsessment works best when the students know the learning goals clearly and explicitly.
• Assessment makes a difference when it begins with questions the students really care about or have interest in.
• Assessment requires attention to outcomes but also and equally to the experiences that lead to those outcomes.
• Assessment is most effective when it reflects an understanding of learning as multidimensional, integrated, and revealed in performance over time.
• Assessment works best when it is ongoing, not episodic.
• Look for evidence of learning, not just scores.
Purposes:
• For Management Purposes
• For Certification of Achievements
• For Teaching Purposes
• For Selection Purposes
• For Monitoring Progress of Development Projects
